New DJ Setup – Traktor Pro
Oct 10th
I’ve recently changed my DJ setup to using Traktor Pro with an Apple iMac plus a new Traktor Kontrol X1 controller together with my existing Denon DNS-1200 cd players and Pioneer DJM400 mixer, which you can see in the photo below.
I wish I had done it months earlier, the capabilities and extra things you can do is superb, looping, effects and editing/remixing the music live is great, as before it became rather boring just mixing intros into outros of tracks.
Finally it’s all set up and working with the software via MIDI/USB, so stay tuned for some new mix videos to be uploaded soon.
New Traktor Pro DJ Setup Preview Video
Oct 1st
A quick preview video of my new DJ setup using Denon DNS-1200 cd decks and a Traktor X1 Kontrol connected up to Traktor Pro DJ software on the iMac.
It took a while to get it all set up properly, getting the cd player display to show correctly and to get better pitch resolution with MIDI etc, but it’s all working and I’ll be making some new mixes very soon! Well, as soon as I can sort out a mixer as my current DJM-400 has problems with the outputs (right channel isn’t working)
I’ve Gone Digital! Traktor Pro & MIDI
Sep 19th

I’ve decided to go 100% digital and to use Traktor Pro as my main setup – using my MIDI cd decks – Denon DNS1200′s and a new Kontrol X1 controller that I’ve just bought to control features such as hot cues, loops and effects.
I considered moving from cds/mp3 to PC a while back when I first bought my MIDI cd players but decided against it and it wasn’t practical for gigs, plus the fact I didn’t want a PC doing all the work for me and taking the fun out of beatmatching.
But having bought an IMac recently and looking into further I just had to move to using Traktor Pro. It’s superb software and although I can’t seem to get any information on my Denon DNS1200 cd decks, such as track information and pitch, I can’t wait to start setting up my music collection – hot cues, loops etc and begin mixing with a lot more variety.
I don’t get around to finding a lot of time for mixing and when I do it’s usually a boring, quick mix of the latest tracks I’ve bought. The typical standard outro-to-intro mixing which is hardly the most creative ways of DJing!
So I can’t wait to get going with Traktor Pro, a brand new Traktor Kontrol X1 Controller to control effects, loops and hot cues and start mixing differently etc.
I was initially put off going down the digital software route, thinking the computer does everything for you with the Sync button and the features in software that ensure loops etc always fit in place. But software doesn’t always know the exact BPM as well as where each beat is, so I’ll continue to do my own beatmatching.
I’ve set up my new system with an iMac, Kontrol X1, Denon DNS1200 cd players and it was far from a simple process. It took hours to finally get it all working and connected up properly, so if anyone needs to know how to get it working – just ask!
A setup video and photos to follow.
DJ Kevin-E – Be Water (Intro – 1st Draft)
Jul 19th
I’ve been using Logic Pro for a week now after buying an IMac and have been playing around with different sounds. Here’s my first draft of an intro of a track with some Bruce Lee samples (more to come). A quick first draft, hopefully I can develop it into a full track sometime soon. I’m a beginner in Logic Pro but let me know what you think. Sorry for the poor quality video, it was ripped from youtube.

Recently released on Markus Schulz’s Coldharbour Recordings label, Phynn gives Rex Mundi’s latest release “Opera of Northern Ocean” a big synth lead – uplifting and is going to be a big track this Summer. Check it out:
Deadmau5 – Some Chords
May 9th
It’s been a while since I liked a Deadmau5 release, but he’s back on form with this Electro House banger – “Some Chords” which is top of the Beatport charts.
Deadmau5 seems to be like marmite, either you love him or hate him. I enjoyed his early releases such as Not Exactly, my favourite from him, but I haven’t enjoyed many other of his tracks since. The Reward is Cheese and Ghosts n’ Stuff were good though.
The haters will hate it no doubt, but I think it’s a decent electro house that will go down well on the dancefloor. Nothing special like his early tracks, but decent none-the-less.
