I’ve Gone Digital! Traktor Pro & MIDI

I’ve decided to go 100% digital and to use Traktor Pro as my main setup – using my MIDI cd decks – Denon DNS1200′s and a new Kontrol X1 controller that I’ve just bought to control features such as hot cues, loops and effects.

I considered moving from cds/mp3 to PC a while back when I first bought my MIDI cd players but decided against it and it wasn’t practical for gigs, plus the fact I didn’t want a PC doing all the work for me and taking the fun out of beatmatching.

But having bought an IMac recently and looking into further I just had to move to using Traktor Pro. It’s superb software and although I can’t seem to get any information on my Denon DNS1200 cd decks, such as track information and pitch, I can’t wait to start setting up my music collection – hot cues, loops etc and begin mixing with a lot more variety.

I don’t get around to finding a lot of time for mixing and when I do it’s usually a boring, quick mix of the latest tracks I’ve bought. The typical standard outro-to-intro mixing which is hardly the most creative ways of DJing!

So I can’t wait to get going with Traktor Pro, a brand new Traktor Kontrol X1 Controller to control effects, loops and hot cues and start mixing differently etc.

I was initially put off going down the digital software route, thinking the computer does everything for you with the Sync button and the features in software that ensure loops etc always fit in place. But software doesn’t always know the exact BPM as well as where each beat is, so I’ll continue to do my own beatmatching.

I’ve set up my new system with an iMac, Kontrol X1, Denon DNS1200 cd players and it was far from a simple process. It took hours to finally get it all working and connected up properly, so if anyone needs to know how to get it working – just ask!

A setup video and photos to follow.
