Samples – Daft Punk – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
May 3rd
Daft Punk – the kings of sampling. Here’s where they get their inspiration from for their funky, french house music:
Edwin Birdsong – Cola Bottle Baby
Tune of the Week – The Black Project – Off The Wall
Feb 28th
Another Funky House tune from the Black Project. “In The Disco” and “Wonder” are other great tunes by them, “Off The Wall” features a Michael Jackson sample together with a funky bassline.
House Classic – The Bucketheads – The Bomb!
Nov 28th
The Bomb is probably one of the most well-known classic house tracks from the 90′s. Using a simple vocal sample “Street sounds swirling through my mind…” the Bucketheads, is Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, who is also one half of Masters of Work, another very popular house name.
The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall into My Mind) has an addictable bassline and funky beat and it’s still sampled to this day.
The original is a massive 14 minutes 51 seconds long!
House Classic – Robin S – Show Me Love
Nov 26th
Yes, some of you are probably thinking that this track has been killed to death thanks to the countless number of remixes over recent years.
It seems each year a different version of this track will become hugely popular on dance floors. At the moment it’s Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso’s mash-up with their track “Be”. Another year it was Mobin Master’s remix etc but none of them come close to Stonebridge’s remix following the Original’s release way back in 1993.
The song reached number 6 in the UK singles charts, and 16 years on, “Show Me Love” remains just as popular as it was when it was first released.
Tune of the Week – Sinan Kurtulus – This Love
May 26th
This week’s top tune is a funky upbeat track by Sinan Kurtulus, one half of the Gimbal and Sinan duo who are releasing some top tunes for free on their website here
Their releases are mostly disco, funky and french house styles and are well worth a listen, and best of all they are available as free downloads.
Tune of the Week – Discofamily – It Just Won’t Do
May 4th
Thought I’d have to go with a house track for this week’s Tune of the Week as they’ve all been trance so far.
I have to say I haven’t found many ‘bombs’ to download lately, mostly just half decent funky house.
Discofamily have released their own version of Tim Deluxe’s classic ‘It Just Won’t Do’, and while they’ll never beat the original, this is a decent electro version that will go down well in a club as a peak-time track.
History of House Music – Documentary
Apr 27th
In the beginning there was Jack … and Jack had a groove, And from this groove came the grooves of all grooves.
And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, Jack boldly declared “Let There Be House” and House music was born.
Every wondered how House Music was started and developed from the 80′s to today?
Here’s part 1 of an excellent and in-depth Documentary, here’s the whole playlist here
