I’ve admired Derren Brown’s unique and unbelievable skills for years now, I’ve seen all of his TV stuff, Trick of the Mind, The Heist, The Gathering etc, but he’s taking things a bigger step further now with ‘The Events’.

I’m a complete non-believer in psychic ability, I don’t believe in mediums and talking to the dead just isn’t possible, Derren Brown’s the same and I loved it when he proved that Seance’s and the activities involved are nothing more than ‘mind over matter’.

What’s annoyed me this week is that Derren Brown has turned into a respectably and hugely-talented man into someone who is now pulling off an easy trick that most people can figure out, and making it out to be something spectacular – something your everyday magician does on a  daily basis.  Brown doesn’t need to do this, the things he can do in front of a live audience is superb, trying to pull something like this off in front of a camera just isn’t going to work.

Derren Brown is one of the biggest Tv-related talking points this week after the trick – which is what it is. The Lottery cannot be predicted, that’s the whole point. There’s a 14million to 1 chance of doing so – you’d have to be incredibly lucky to do it – one or two usually are every week.

The fact that everyone knows it’s impossible means you all assume it’s a trick as soon as you’ve seen it.  Thousands of people have been discussing different methods of how to pull it off, the ‘split-screen’ method seems to be the one that’s most practical in my opinion, and it’s pretty straight forward to do.

There’s plenty of videos that explain how it was done. Watch the video below and I’ll explain my thoughts on how Derren Brown and Channel 4 pulled it off. Remember, Channel 4 are losing Big Brother soon and need the ratings, a controversial trick like this will surely attract a lot of attention.

Basically, the beginning is live, the end is live, the middle is live but only the right side of the screen. The left side is frozen, while his assistant puts the correct numbers on the balls, this shouldn’t take long at all. Once this is done, the screen is back to normal and all is revealed. There’s definitely someone there, he’s given a wave when to put the TV on and he’s looking at someone near the end.

Derren Brown is not a magician, but a clever mind-reader, hypnotist etc, so why he’s doing this I don’t know, surely not many believe he’s pulled this off? He’s exposing himself in a negative way and it looks like he’s desperate for attention. He desperately needs the rest of his ‘Events’ series to improve drastically.
