Behringer DDM4000 Mixer
Dec 31st
I’ve been looking lately at buying some new DJing gear, something I can link up to Traktor Pro and use as a mixer, and I came across the Behringer DDM4000 Mixer.
Usually I wouldn’t look twice at Behringer as they’re not famous for high-quality gear but I’ve read some great reviews about the 4-channel mixer that’s packed with loads of features (2 effects processors, sampler, eq kill buttons, MIDI, optical faders).
My current mixer, the Pioneer DJM400 cost £100 more at £350 and it doesn’t have nowhere near as many features, only 2 channels – not 4, no MIDI, fewer effects, and no cue mix for headphones. The price really is unbelievable at £250.
I can’t wait to get it and replace my Pioneer mixer that has broken master outputs (only the left output works)

Tomcraft – Room 414 (Can’t Get Away)

Superb Vocal House from Tomcraft, I’m loving this right now:
Trance Mix – 30 mins – Feb 2010 – Part 2
Feb 26th
Part 2 of my latest 30 minute quick trance Mix, featuring tracks by John O’Callaghan, W&W and Ummet Ozcan.
Trance Mix – 30 mins – Feb 2010
Feb 25th
A quick 30 minute mix featuring some of my favourite recent releases. A quick one so the tracks don’t go brilliantly together at times, not in same key etc but these are some of my faves at the moment.
Tracks included in part 1 are Arnej – Ping Pong, Estiva – Friends and Enemies, John O’Callaghan – Striker.
Part 1 of 2 on youtube below (part 2 coming soon)
Quick Video – EQ In The Mix
Oct 9th
Here’s a quick video showing one way of using the EQ to make a smoother transition between two House tracks. I’d do it using equipment (which I’d prefer) but it’s hard to get the right angle and DJ at the same time so I did it in Traktor instead to show a close-up of the high-mid-low EQs.
There’s no right or wrong way to mix, just as long as it sounds good. This is just an example, different songs and genres will require different EQ methods (taking the bass away at different times, bringing the mid down more if they clash etc) Unlike in this video, it’s best to operate the two EQ knobs at the same time usually, so whilst taking away some bass on one side, you add bass on the other at the same time.
I hope it helps and it gives you an idea of how to use EQ effectively. Generally you’d change the EQ after every 4/8 bars.
There’s more info on the Traktor Pro software here as well as a link to buy it from amazon.
